Nova 3D by Tesseri-Shira Nova 3D by Tesseri-Shira
Well... this was from last term. It was my final project which I unfortunately never got around to uploading because that was when my laptop was hostage and then when I got it back I kinda forgot. HAHA! So I am posting it now!

I was learning 3D at the time and this is the model I made of Nova. The colors are off cuz I had no reference (hostage laptop had the only pics of her I had at the time) and the tail didn't get blended to look 'furry', but I still got an 'A' on it! In fact my teacher wants to print this is 3D! As a figurine! OMIFREAKINGGOSH! THAT WOULD BE EPIC! And it only would cost like... 5-7 bucks! I hope I get to!
But looking back on this, I realize I messed up the anatomy. Her stomach is too 'tucked' and she has a more 'canine' feel than 'ferret' Oh well. It's kind of how I draw her anyways. Ringtail's are hard to draw anatomically correct sometimes.

If only I knew how to rig her with bones, I might be able to do the Bassarisk series in 3D but even I know that is too much for my school's drivers to handle. They can't even handle a recorded video that is less than 5 minutes long, let alone a whole episode rendered in 3D (or a series for that matter).

Anyways. Hope you like it!
Nova and Bassarisk (C) me. Do not steal.

i didn't think the Ring Tail was related to the lemur! They look too cool to be lemurs! I love raccons but the ring tail is better!

That is an excellent 3D model. It has a very organic, very real look to it, unlike most computerized characters. :icondragonnod1: Out of curiosity, did you use NURB modeling to make this, or some other method entirely?

Uh, NURB?

Uh...you know....NURB modeling is when you get create some points on a program, have the computer create the smoothest curve between them, and eventually create a 3D model from that. Did you use a technique anything like that?

Oh lol yah (brain dead from finals) I didn't have to do that because Sculptris has a smoothing tool and its way easy to use. (and free :D)

Oh, so that's how you got it so smooth looking. :meow: I like Sculptris, but it's not really compatible with my computer. ^^;

Why doesn't it work with your computer?

Well, on my Mac, it doesn't work for the simple reason that it isn't Mac-compatible.

As for my dad's PC, I'm not exactly sure. It worked on the computer for a while, until it got a virus. The program was wiped from the computer, and when I tried to reupload it, it wouldn't work. It's puzzling. :\

I really like the ears in that big profile of Nova's head.

:D Thanks! I hated doing the ears because they were so thin there were rendering problems where they would have inverted spikey bits going through the opposite side. I'm glad they turned out ok and you like them!

What is rendering, by the way?

:icontesseri-shira:
Tesseri-Shira Featured By Owner Jan 9, 2011  Professional Digital Artist
Rendering is when you go from a file that isn't saved in its final form (like a AMV in windows movie maker) and exporting it into a finished file (.avi or .mpeg4 for that AMV.) In reference from 3d its the change between the jagged looking 3d model, to a sleek and smooth looking 3d model.

Aaaaah, I see.
Makes me think of those ice sculpting cartoons: A tap here, a tap there, then with one final clank, BOOM! The whole thing gives way to a sleek masterpiece.
Thanks for explaining it :D
